Sober Curious:
Millennials are causing big shifts in both the alcohol and alcohol-free beverage markets, resulting in increased “0% alcohol” offerings. IWSR Drinks Market Analysis forecasts the no-/low-ETOH category to grow 31% by 2024. Botanical ingredients are replacing alcohol in many cases to recreate the flavor experience of alcohol. Chili peppers, herbs, decoctions of roots and bark, oak extracts, bitters, and others engage consumer interest. Experiential botanicals include CBD, adaptogens (such as ginseng and ashwagandha), and green tea are common examples.
Still Room for a Drink:
A mid-2022 IRI report reveals a strong emphasis on “better-for-you” alcohol beverage alternatives, as indicated by a more than 20% increase in sales of such beverages from 2021 to 2022. Ingredients you can expect to see showing up in these beverages, include reishi, hibiscus, tart cherry, and ashwagandha.
